Charlottetown is the capital of Prince Edward Island, and is the largest city in PEI.The area is popular with tourists, with significantly more vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the summer months. The city is also the birthplace of Canada's confederation. Charlottetown is situated around the Northumberland Straits, making it and ideal location for people who enjoys walks along the water, or summer boating. The city has a mix of new and old developments, with many buildings being well kept and maintained. Charlottetown is also home to the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), the province's only university. UPEI is a popular undergraduate and graduate university, with thousands of young students attending every year. UPEI is known nationally for it's veterinary college. While many live on campus, the area immediately surrounding UPEI has many high density apartment buildings which are almost entirely student occupied.
