How it Works
Listing your rental on Rent Donkey is fast and easy. To be added, simply
List Your Rental on Kijiji. As long as you list your Kijiji ad under the Halifax area and include a rental price, we'll find it and add it to our catalog within 24hrs. Once you rent your property, simply remove your Kijiji listing and we'll also remove it from here.
Why Kijiji?
Unless you've been living under a rock, you probably already know Kijiji is pretty awesome. (If you do in fact live under a rock, Kijiji is a free classified site that is really easy to use). Some key benefits to this include:
- Simple - You're probably already listing your rental on Kijiji, so why would we make you do the work twice?
- Fast - Kijiji is really easy to use and doesn't require you to sign up or create an account. Oh, did we mention it's free?
- Efficient - You get maximum exposure for your rental, don't pay any money, and your ad is managed through one single location.
Listing Do's & Dont's
How you enter your listing is critical because it
impacts how we categorize it, and how effective your ad is. Follow these tips to ensure maximum mileage for your ad, and avoid beginner mistakes:
- Include a Price - Playing hard to get isn't good in the rental world. Be up front and list the monthly rental cost. Otherwise 9/10 people will skip right over your ad. And in fact, we won't even list you without a price!
- Include Your Full Address - Whenever possible, include your full street address. Simply listing the location as "Halifax" will guarantee the majority of people skip your ad. Location is important - people want to know where your rental is. If you're uncomfortable listing the address, include your postal code - that will enable us to at least figure out your neighborhood.
- Include Pictures - Everyone loves pictures! Take the extra minute to snap a few photos so that people can visualize your rental. Just remember to clean up the underwear and socks off your floor first. It's also helpful if you include a photo of the outside of your building, so people can visualize what it looks like.
- Tell Us What's Included - What utlities are included? How many appliances are there? Is there a balcony? Is my dog permitted? What about parking?
- Be Brief - Cut to the chase and list the basic facts: what is included, where it is, and what it costs. That's it! This is not the place for creativity - people will scan your add in under 2 seconds and may be scared off by dramatic and long descriptions.
- Use Good Formatting - Don't change the font size, colour, typeface - this will not enhance your ad. Instead use the default font, and list the key information in brief paragraphs or bullet points.

The Bad
This may seem dramatic, but the mistakes of this ad are frequently repeated:
Address? No address equals no interest.
Too Much Text - You didn't read the ad, did you? Exactly.
No Information - There is lots of fluff, but the ad does not tell us anything about the actual rental. What's included?
When's It Available? We want to know!
Messy Photo - Yes, at least they included a photo, although a little bit of pre-planning goes a long way.
Font - Changing the colours, size, and typeface is usually unnecessary and distracting.

The Good
Ah, that's better!
Complete Address - We know exactly where it's located.
Headline - The headline tells us the key info: when it's available and what's included.
Nice Photo - Who wouldn't want to live there?
Information - The information is laid out in bullet points, organized, and easily digestible. We can instantly understand what the apartment is about.
